Swanton Pacific Railroad Open House Events
Swanton Pacific Railroad is open to the public on a limited basis. Twice a year, generally in April and late September or early October, Cal Poly and the Swanton Pacific Railroad Society hosts open house events that allows the public to ride the 1/3 railroad built by Al Smith. These events are limited to 500 people and tickets are sold on a first come first served basis. Ticket sales normally open about a month ahead of the event date.
Events for 2018
Al Smith Day - CANCELED due to storm related damage to Swanton Pacific Railroad track.
Cal Poly Day for 2018 has been rebranded to be Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Day and is scheduled for Saturday, September 22. We have been working with the Swanton Pacific Ranch and the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences to highlight all of the activities that take place at Swanton Pacific Ranch. Although we do not have the tracks in place to offer train rides, the roundhouse and shops will be open with static displays. For more information about Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Day click here.
You are also welcome to visit the railroad on the second Saturday of each month when the volunteers are working. Although we do not offer train rides on those weekends, there is always a volunteer ready to give you a tour and talk with you about volunteer opportunities. Occasionally we are able to accommodate visitors by special arrangement. If you have questions about visiting or volunteering please use the contact information below.
